PDF to Word (selectable text)

Turn a PDF that already has selectable text into an editable DOCX in your browser. Scanned or image-only PDFs need OCR, which this tool does not provide. Layout, fonts, images, columns, spacing, and tables are not faithfully preserved.

Files are processed locally in your browser.

For this tool, your files never leave your device. We don’t upload your documents to a server.

Selectable text only — no OCR

This tool converts PDFs that already contain selectable text into an editable Word document. If you can highlight and copy text in a PDF reader, conversion can proceed.

Scanned or image-only PDFs are pictures of pages. They need OCR, which this tool does not provide. Conversion stops and explains that when there is no selectable text.

Layout is not pixel-perfect. Fonts, images, columns, spacing, and tables may not be faithfully preserved. Columns are read in sequence rather than kept side by side, and images are not copied into the DOCX.

How to use this tool

  1. Add a PDF. Drop one PDF into the box, or choose it from your device.
  2. Convert. Click Convert to Word. The page reads the selectable text on each page and builds a DOCX file.
  3. Download. Save the Word document. It keeps the uploaded file name, with .docx instead of .pdf.

Supported formats

Input
One PDF file (.pdf), up to 75 MB and 200 pages.
Output
One editable DOCX named after the uploaded PDF. Text is reconstructed into paragraphs. Headings, lists, tables, and links are included when the PDF structure makes them recognizable. A page break separates PDF pages.

Limitations

  • The Word document will not match the PDF layout. Columns are read one after another instead of being kept side by side. Exact fonts, spacing, headers, and footers are not reproduced.
  • Images are not copied into the Word file. Pages are not inserted as pictures.
  • A scanned or image-only PDF has no selectable text. The tool stops and explains that OCR would be required. It does not run OCR.
  • If only some pages are scans, those pages are marked in the document and the other pages are converted.
  • Headings, lists, and tables are inferred from text size and position, so they can be wrong.
  • Links are kept when the PDF has a link over the text.
  • Password-protected and encrypted PDFs cannot be opened.
  • Each PDF must be 75 MB or smaller and 200 pages or fewer.

Frequently asked questions

Will the Word document look like the PDF?
No. The text stays editable, and the reading order is reconstructed from the PDF. Columns, exact fonts, spacing, and page design are not preserved.
Can it convert a scanned PDF?
No. A scan is a picture of a page. This tool does not run OCR. If the PDF has no selectable text, conversion stops and explains that. Mixed documents convert the text pages and mark the scanned ones.
Are links kept?
Web links are kept when the PDF stores them as link annotations on the text. Links that are only drawn as colored text, with no annotation, become ordinary text.
Does the Word file contain pictures of the pages?
No. The document is built from the extracted text so you can edit it. Images in the PDF are not copied across.
Is my PDF uploaded?
No. This tool runs in your browser. Your files are not uploaded to a server for processing.
